Hender Scheme

Hender Scheme was founded in Tokyo by Ryo Kashiwazaki in 2010, and it starts from a simple idea: objects become more valuable through use. The brand turns away from the perfection and uniformity of mass production and favours something slower and more personal. Its Manual Industrial Products line is the best known. It recreates familiar sneaker shapes in natural vegetable-tanned leather, and lets time play a part in the design. The leather darkens in sunlight, softens with movement and picks up a patina that belongs to whoever wears it. Creases and marks are treated as evidence of life, not damage. Beyond footwear, Hender Scheme makes bags and accessories with the same care for material and process. Buy it if you like things that look better the longer you own them.
