Aurora Shoe Company is a small group of artisans making footwear in a rural upstate New York town, and they have been at it since the early 1990s. Every pair is made by hand, one step at a time, using American materials. The shoes are assembled in house from simple cuts of leather with minimal stitching, so they mould to the wearer's feet the way natural materials and careful design allow. Comfort and durability come first. If a pair needs new soles or some repair stitching, you can send it back to the factory and, for a small fee, they will return it quickly. They also welcome tracings of your feet by post, and the shop opens most Fridays from 10 to 4.
