Meindl

Meindl has been making footwear in Kirchanschoring, Bavaria since 1683, when Petrus Meindl set up as the family's first shoemaker. Now led by the eleventh generation, Lukas and Lars Meindl, the factory turns out over a million pairs a year, with 200 master shoemakers taking each boot through more than 200 handcrafted steps. Alfons Meindl was among the first to fit a GORE-TEX membrane into a boot and devised the A-D terrain grading still used to match boots to ground, from city pavements to Everest expeditions. Many models can be resoled, extending their working life for years.
