Hartford

Hartford began in 1979, when Yves Chareton started the label in the United States. A New York manufacturer sold him old stock of Oxford and Chambray fabrics, and those went into the first shirts, which had a vintage feel you couldn't find elsewhere. The studio later moved back to Paris, and the brand now sits between American wardrobe classics and a laid-back West Coast mood, with the sea and the 1960s as reference points. Fabrics come from French linen, Albini in Italy, Maruwa in Japan and Liberty, and the sweaters use merino, alpaca and cashmere. The Paul shirt made its name with men, and the Jonah jacket is another signature piece. Small playful details, like tiny embroidered Hawaiian dancers, add some humour.
