Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu

Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu is a canvas bag shop in Kyoto, founded in 1905. Its bags are made by craftsmen from specially woven canvas at the Higashiyama workshop, under a philosophy of "To go to any expense" that the shop says has not changed in over 100 years. The designs are plain and sturdy, meant for everyday use rather than special occasions, and they gain character with age. Most sales are unprinted cotton bags, alongside linen pieces and some printed cotton canvas. When a bag needs repair, the shop mends it without losing its feel. The workshop motto is "Make in Kyoto, Sell in Kyoto", and outside Japan the label is sold exclusively through Trunk Clothiers.
