Norlha

Norlha makes scarves, shawls, clothing and homewares, handwoven from yak wool by nomads turned artisans on the Tibetan Plateau. The atelier is in Ritoma Village in the Amdo region of Tibet, and it works with yak khullu, the soft, durable underdown of the yak. Dechen Yeshi founded it in 2007, and the story on its site describes it as an exploration of fibre and place, rooted in tradition yet open to the future. Stockists describe the pieces as defined by texture, form and natural colour. There is a lovely extra touch too: you can add a hand-painted blessing to any order, painted in copper sand ink on black paper by a local thangka painter.
