Phigvel Makers & Co. was founded in Tokyo in 2002 by Hideki Tohno. The label starts from classic American workwear, military clothing and traditional menswear, then reworks those familiar designs with carefully developed fabrics, patterns and details. Everything is made in Japan, with an emphasis on quality and longevity. The current range shows the approach well. There are Fisherman's Jackets, Workaday Slacks and Hunting Cargo Trousers in 100% cotton, plus corduroy trousers and a long bill cap. Knitwear, such as the crewneck and polo, mixes 57% linen with 43% wool. Its Poplin Dress Shirt comes in two versions: a Classic regular collar based on a military dress shirt, and a Vintage long point collar drawn from 1940s and 50s shirts.
