Tailor Toyo

Tailor Toyo is a Japanese label that makes souvenir jackets, known in Japan as sukajan. Its own site says it has been making them for over half a century, and it presents the brand as the original sukajan maker. The style began in the early postwar years, when US servicemen stationed in Japan had jackets embroidered with eagles, tigers, dragons, unit names or base names as mementos. Tailor Toyo carries that tradition on. Its jackets draw on mid-century designs and are detailed, with traditional Japanese embroidery. Quality construction and faithful reproduction are the focus. The site also shows a reproduction of a late 1950s Guam-themed piece in two-tone velveteen. Stockists such as Son of a Stag have carried reversible collaboration jackets with Kosho & Co.
