Monokel

Monokel is a Stockholm eyewear label with a simple aim: sunglasses that are thoughtful rather than overthought. It was started by Robert Sandgren and Fredrik Sävenberg, who were snowboarders and filmmakers before they made frames, working from an old porcelain factory in the archipelago. Most frames are plant-based acetate, and the all-black ones use recycled acetate. Lenses are from Carl Zeiss Vision. Since 2021 the acetate has been biodegradable, made from cotton and wood fibre, and made to last but not forever, as they put it. Each pair is handcrafted over roughly three months. Start with the Nelson, a crowd favourite with soft rectangular lenses that suit a wide range of face shapes.
