Engineered Garments

Engineered Garments was founded in 1999 by Daiki Suzuki, a Japanese-born New York resident. He began as a buyer for Nepenthes, the Japanese retail group, and the label started as an in-house line under it. The name explains the approach: the clothes put engineering ahead of fashion-led design, so you will find reinforced seams, well-placed pockets and hidden details throughout. References come from vintage American sportswear, prep, blue collar workwear and military uniforms, a mix summed up as "Japanese New Americana". The idea is simple: garments that become more personal the more you wear them. The Officer Pant, for example, draws on the khaki working uniform of US Navy officers in the Second World War.
