Chamula

Chamula is a Mexican footwear and accessories label founded by Yuki Matsuda, the designer behind MEG Company, who also runs Yuketen. It grew out of his travels through rural Mexico in the 1990s. The range covers huarache sandals, leather boots, hand-knit and hand-woven pieces and handmade bracelets. Everything is made by hand by artisans in the highlands, in small batches, using traditional methods such as the wooden foot pedal loom. Materials are locally sourced, including leather, horsehair and alpaca. The leathers are supple and breathable, and they develop a patina. The Cancun, for example, is a huarache slip-on in vegetable-tanned leather, tanned with tree bark and plants.
