Matsuda

Matsuda is a Japanese eyewear label with a proper workshop story behind it. Mitsuhiro Matsuda founded his fashion house in Tokyo in 1967, and the eyewear collection arrived in 1989. The frames are still made by hand in Sabae, Japan, and a single design can take up to 250 steps and as long as two years to finish. Materials are the draw: titanium, stainless steel, sterling silver and 18k gold, plus Japanese acetate made from cotton and cured for over three months. Master polishers who apprenticed for 10 years hand-finish each piece. Expect side shields, pince-nez bridges and an avant-garde look drawing on Gothic architecture, Art Deco and industrial design. Every hinge and temple is designed for the collection.
