Polo Ralph Lauren

Polo Ralph Lauren began in 1967, when Ralph Lauren, a boy from the Bronx who had reworked rags into ties to sell to fellow students, launched his own line called Polo. A few years later came the short-sleeved shirt with the embroidered polo player on the chest, which is still the piece most people think of first. The range has since grown to include Oxford shirts, cable-knit jumpers, chinos, varsity jackets, sweats and denim. The look draws on Ivy League campuses, country clubs, Western ranches and the streets of New York. In the late 80s and 90s it also found fans among skaters, punks and hip hop artists, helped along by the Polo Bear and the American flag motif.
