ROTOTO

ROTOTO is a Japanese sock label set up in 2014 by designer Daisuke Ishii. Everything is made in Nara Prefecture, the country's largest sock-producing region, where the industry started in 1910. Ishii founded the label to make use of the old low-gauge knitting machines still around the prefecture, the sort that need people working alongside them. Production is small-batch, with careful yarn choices and reinforced heels and toes. Every pair has a left and a right. The range is wider than plain everyday socks: rugby stripes, chunky pile boot socks, gingham jacquards, and even a beanie. Materials include organic cotton, merino and linen, depending on the style. The idea is simple: socks made well enough that you keep wearing them for years.
