Sebago

Sebago started in Westbrook, Maine, in 1946, when Daniel J. Wellehan Sr., William Beaudoin and Joseph Cordeau set up the Sebago-Moc Company. Their first product was the hand-sewn Beefroll Penny Loafer, built with genuine moccasin construction: one piece of leather wrapped around the foot. The Docksides boat shoe arrived in 1970, with a non-slip rubber sole, rawhide laces and brass eyelets. It landed in the 1980 Official Preppy Handbook alongside the penny loafer. Sebago later became official supplier to the US national sailing team and adopted the motto "Made with care, built to last" in 1993. Since 2017 it has been part of Turin-based BasicNet Group. UK stockists also carry the Ranger line, which pairs a boat shoe vamp with a honey gum commando sole.
