Universal Works

Universal Works is an independent menswear label based in Nottingham. David Keyte launched the first collection in 2009 from his kitchen table, aiming for real, honest clothing built on fit and good design, never over designed. His background shapes it: a working-class family in a Midlands town who loved dressing well, an apprenticeship as a sign-writer, then thirty years in fashion, including time around Paul Smith and Maharishi. The label favours skilled, small-scale production, working with factories in the UK and overseas that it trusts. Shirt jackets, gilets, the Bakers jacket and fatigue pants are staples, with workwear roots and a steady approach that avoids chasing trends. It has stores in London and Nottingham.
