Sunspel

Sunspel has been in Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire since 1860, when Thomas Hill founded it to make garments from cashmere, silk, merino wool and Sea Island cotton. For its first century it mostly made underwear, and it brought the boxer short to Britain in 1947. The Classic T-shirt is still made by hand in its English factory from Californian Supima cotton, and the mesh Riviera Polo dates from the 1950s. It was tailored for Daniel Craig's James Bond in Casino Royale. Colours run plain: mostly white, grey or navy. The range now includes Grade A cashmere knitwear, and it works with Scottish spinners and family-owned factories in Portugal. A good place to start if you want well-made basics.
