A Bathing Ape

A Bathing Ape, usually shortened to BAPE, started in Ura-Harajuku, Tokyo, in 1993. Nigo founded it, drawing on his love of 20th-century pop culture, including Planet of the Apes and the phrase "a bathing ape in lukewarm water". He left the brand in 2013 to focus on new ventures such as Human Made. The look is easy to spot. The Ape Head logo and the camo print turn up on hoodies, t-shirts and jackets, and the Shark hoodie is one of its best-known pieces. Expect youthful, graphic-heavy clothing. Sneakers and accessories sit alongside the clothes. Today the label runs its own stores, including BAPE STORE, BAPE KIDS and A Bathing Ape Pirate Store, and sells worldwide.
