Comme des Garçons Black

Comme des Garçons Black is Rei Kawakubo's darker, more distilled take on the CdG universe. It was born from the 2009 financial crisis, when much of fashion was scaling back and Kawakubo chose to launch a new diffusion line instead. It started out as a pop-up and was later revived once its moody, monochrome look caught on. The menswear is rooted in an avant-garde spirit. Expect asymmetrical hemlines, off-centre buttoning and an unexpected detail somewhere, all in a palette that rarely strays from black. The tailoring is minimal but plays with texture, proportion and subtle distortion, so simple pieces still give you something to look at.
