Peggs & Son

Peggs & Son opened in April 2000 on the outskirts of Brighton's North Laine, started by two menswear enthusiasts who reckoned the city needed somewhere proper to buy the clothes they wanted to wear. It's since moved twice and settled on Duke Street, in the heart of the city, looking down Middle Street towards the sea.

The shop's edit runs on genuinely excellent product: Japanese and American selvedge denim, Scandinavian knitwear and shirting, hand-made shoes and technical sports apparel, all picked with a heritage eye. Expect Kapital and Sage de Cret alongside S.N.S Herning and Andersen Andersen for knitwear, Buzz Rickson's and Armor-Lux for workwear roots, MHL by Margaret Howell and Arpenteur for quieter tailoring, plus Globe-Trotter and Il Bussetto for the finishing touches. It's a small, independent operation, and the staff on the floor tend to know their stock inside out.
